Accessibility

ALA works to make sure your experience will be a pleasant and accessible one.  Below you'll find Conference features to ensure that the ALA 2021 Annual Conference is accessible to all.

  • We caption the General sessions, Featured Speaker sessions, and the ALA President's Program session. We also caption the ALA Membership Meeting and Council Meetings.

  • We have accessible sleeping rooms in our hotel block. Rooms for the deaf, blind, and attendees in wheelchairs are available. Please check the appropriate box on your housing form.  An onPeak representative will contact you to make sure you are placed in an appropriate room.

  • Service animals are welcome throughout the Conference.

  • Our shuttle bus company offers accessible buses. Instructions on how to obtain your ride are available in each hotel, in the Convention Center, and in the Program & Exhibit Directory.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters

Conference Services coordinates interpreting services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. To use the service, Interpreter requests should be made prior to conference attendance by contacting the Conference Services Accessibility Hotline 312-280-3225 or email [email protected].

An interpreter will also be on-call in the Conference Services Office in the Convention Center, Thursday through Monday.  Services are available on a first-come / first-serve basis.

Mobility Assistance

For attendees who require mobility assistance, ALA maintains a limited number of mobility vehicles (wheelchairs and scooters) available for reservation during registration or by emailing [email protected]. Requests must be received by May 21, 2021 in order to guarantee your reservation. Reservation requests will not be taken after this deadline.

Daily pick-up and drop-off will be managed at the Mobility Assistance desk in the Registration area of the McCormick Place Convention Center. You will be asked to sign in when you pick up your vehicle and are asked to return it at the end of each day. Mobility vehicles returned past the posted Mobility Assistance desk hours are subject to a $50 return fee.

Note: Complimentary mobility vehicles rented through ALA are only to be used in the Convention Center and the attached hotel. If your itinerary includes sessions or activities outside of these locations or requires the use of a mobility vehicle past the posted Mobility Assistance desk hours, please contact Scootaround.com directly to rent a mobility vehicle.
